The 3 Ds of Spring Cleaning

It’s that time of year again! Winter is wrapping up and we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The sun comes out more and the weather warms up – it's Springtime! Spring is the perfect time to clean and declutter after being indoors all winter.

When most people think of spring cleaning, they think of their homes. But spring cleaning should be for your business as well! Your office is where employees spend most of their days and where customers expect clean safe environments. This spring, take some time to clean your business.

Where to Start

If you want to get a head start on spring cleaning, that means beginning in March or April. However, spring cleaning can be done throughout May and even early June. Every part of your business should be given some attention during this time. So, start off by making a to-do list for each area/room. This will help you break down the areas, ensure you’re not missing anything, and give you an idea of what supplies you’ll need.

Dust

The simplest way to remove dirt and dust in your office is by vacuuming floors and dusting surfaces. Not only is dust unsightly, but it’s made up of dead skin cells, hair, pet dander (if applicable), and microscopic bugs. A large amount of dust could cause “allergy-like symptoms such as itchy eyes, sneezing, and coughing.

You should vacuum all carpets, rugs, and floors. Get under desks and all other furniture such as chairs, couches, and tables. When you dust around the office, make sure to pick up objects to dust and get underneath. Keyboards, computer monitors, and desks are common office equipment that collects dust.

Disinfect

With winter coming to a close, so is cold and flu season. The start of spring is the perfect opportunity to disinfect surfaces around your facility. When thinking about disinfecting, keep not only your customers in mind but your employees as well. That means disinfecting the breakroom just as much as you disinfect the front lobby.

Every business has different areas and cleaning challenges. A good rule of thumb is to disinfect all high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, office supplies/equipment, and countertops or desks. Then consider your business and what other surfaces need to be disinfected. Are there specific tools you use often? Is there equipment in your facility that your employees or customers use? For example, nursing homes should disinfect bedframes, veterinary clinics should disinfect patient tables, and daycares should disinfect toys.

Our Triple Threat Defense Disinfecting Cleaner is not only a disinfectant and cleaner, but it’s also a deodorizer, bactericidal, virucide, tuberculocidal, mildewstat, and fungicide. It’s ready-to-use and EPA-registered to kill COVID-19, norovirus, canine parvovirus, MRSA, and so much more!

Declutter

No doubt there is a closet or a desk drawer that is unorganized or full of 'stuff’. Did you know that a cluttered office can affect our moods, and productivity levels, and feeling more burnt out?

If you feel anxious when you see clutter, you’re not alone. We feel this way because it’s a constant reminder of the work we have to do. We also don’t know how long or what it will take to tidy up. It could even cause feelings of guilt and embarrassment. It’s also a big distraction to us. If your desk or even your desktop is disorganized, it’s harder for your brain to process information.

Set aside some time to go through the clutter. This could lead to tossing things you don’t want/need or simply reorganizing the space. Doing so will make you feel so much better and in control.
