As you know Canine Parvovirus, also known as parvo, is a highly contagious virus to dogs. What you may not know, is that according to an American Kennel Club article, the second method of transmission is through indirect contact. “The virus can survive on clothing, equipment, human skin, as well as in the environment. Indirect transmission occurs when a puppy comes into contact with a contaminated person, object, or environment.” It is essential to keep surfaces clean of waste matter and properly disinfected. Additionally, employees should wash their hands thoroughly to avoid contaminating pets.
Canine infectious tracheobronchitis, or Kennel Cough, is another prominent disease in the animal care industry. This disease is a highly contagious respiratory infection. According to another American Kennel Club article, “Dogs commonly contract kennel cough at places where large amounts of canines congregate, such as boarding and daycare facilities, dog parks, training groups, and dog shows. Dogs can spread it to one another through airborne droplets, direct contact (e.g., touching noses), or contaminated surfaces (including water/food bowls). It’s highly treatable in most dogs but can be more severe in puppies younger than six months of age and immunocompromised dogs.” – Being up to date on shots protects the animals, but it is also important to take proper steps to disinfect your facility to kill these disease-causing bacteria.
Disinfectants

Keep the surface wet with the solution for 10 minutes to disinfect.
